Fidelity (Journal of the History of Science) is an international, scientific, peer-reviewed, open-access journal published continuously online by Cappadocia Publishing. The manuscript covers analytically oriented articles that combine original research and critical engagement with up-to-date secondary literature in all disciplines. The journal also publishes articles that focus on relevant historical issues and matters related to the history of science and education. The journal welcomes proposals for extended review essays that examine a number of publications in relation to a significant historical or historiographical theme, as well as book reviews, and establishment histories such as those of universities, institutes, and even for-profit organizations. By the way, Fidelity is especially open to submissions that develop innovative topics and approaches. So too, submissions that challenge the field's traditional geographical categories are especially welcome.
Hana Arge ve Danışmanlık Ltd.
Prof. Dr. Fikret Hakkı Bilgin (1934–2025) was a pioneering zoologist and the founding figure of malacological research in Turkey. His systematic and ecological investigations on freshwater mollusks, particularly Gastropoda, provided the first comprehensive framework for the country’s malacofauna and contributed to the international recognition of Anatolian biodiversity. Bilgin described new species, advanced taxonomic knowledge, and established long-term research traditions through both independent and collaborative studies. In addition to his scientific output, he played a central role in institutional development, served in key administrative positions, and supervised numerous graduate theses, thereby shaping subsequent generations of zoologists and hydrobiologists. This article documents his scientific contributions, academic mentorship, and enduring impact on zoological research in Turkey
Erhan Ünlü

This commemorative article honors the life and scientific legacy of Prof. Dr. Gürkan Ekingen (1939–2025), one of the pioneers of fisheries and aquatic sciences in Turkey. As a founding figure in freshwater ecology, fish biology, and aquaculture education, Prof. Ekingen played a pivotal role in establishing the institutional and academic foundations of fisheries science in the country. After earning his M.Sc. in Limnology at Auburn University (USA) in 1970 and his **Ph.D. at Ankara University in 1973, he contributed significantly to the establishment and development of fisheries programs at Fırat University and Mersin University. His scientific work encompassed limnology, fish physiology, parasitology, and aquaculture, and his textbooks—Trout and Its Artificial Culture, Freshwater Fish Parasites, Fish Anatomy, Limnology, and Identification Keys of Marine Fishes of Turkey—remain foundational references in fisheries education in Turkey. In recognition of his exceptional contributions to fish parasitology and taxonomy, a new parasite species was named in his honor: Myxobolus ekingeni. Beyond his academic achievements, Prof. Ekingen was admired for his humility, mentorship, and lifelong dedication to science and education. His enduring efforts continue to inspire generations of students and researchers in the field of aquatic sciences.
Erhan ÜnlüNazmi PolatMehmet Mustafa Sarıeyyüpoğlu
